Bushido: Wu-Zang Father of Shadows

One more Bushido miniature finished, another Bakemono character called Wu-Zang, Father of Shadows

I really had to work hard at doing this little fellow to complete him. He has so much detail on him I was struggling to work out what was going on in places. That thing on his shoulder is a bat, there are two more on his back as well. I *think* that is a monkey skin on his head but don't quote me on it

That leaves three Bakemono left to complete all of the Bushido project. I'm going to paint something different first though, need to get away from green skin for a bit

More Odds & Ends

I'm still trying to stick to my plan for February, painting odds & ends to clear a few projects. I probably spent a week just assembling, cleaning and undercoating quite a few figures, including ones I'm not likely to get onto painting this month :/

So, with the project clearing in mind, to start with I painted these four 'eavies from Crooked Dice that finishes off the last of their figures. These are obviously inspired from characters from the film, A Clockwork Orange

Next, I painted up another one of the Bushido Savage Wave figures I have. Kano is a smaller oni, standing on a 40mm base this time. Finishing him leaves me just four more Bakemono to clear that project as well

Bushido: Bobata the Bell Ringer

With February marked as my 'paint odds & ends' month, I've been busily working away assembling & undercoating figures in the background, hence the lack of newly painted figures for a few days

However, the first one was completed last night and it was a biggie! Having only six figures to paint to clear all of the Bushido figures I decided that was something to target this month

So, here is my second oni, Bobata the Bell Ringer. Armed with a massive temple bell and sitting on a 50mm base, he is a brute of a figure. Assembly was a bit tricky, the arms & head were easy enough but the bell, coin & chain required a bit of careful pinning & gluing to get them in place as strongly as I could make them

Painted over a black undercoat using old Citadel Foundation Mephiston Red as a base, P3 Khador red & highlight to build up his skin colour

Bushido: The Nian

Just sneaking in at the end of October, I managed to finish off one more of the Japanese fantasy figures for Bushido

I picked this figure up at Colours, back in early September, and had him based and undercoated on the painting table for several weeks. I just couldn't seem to work out what to paint him so I resorted to mixing various colours together on a palette until I found something that looked about right. I think it ended up being a mix of Vallejo sombre grey and tan but don't quote me on it....

The Nian is a demonic Oni dog like creature for the Savage Wave faction and he is based on a 40mm resin base I had spare

Next month, continuation of the far East fantasy that I seem to be doing at the moment

A Week In Paint

Despite no new posts for the last week, I have been busy with the brush & paints. Even though I have had the week off work I didn't really get to do any real painting until late on Tuesday

My real aim this week was to paint the remaining Bushido figures I have left. This was somewhat successful, with the six Bakemono goblins from the starter set plus one additional character Bakemono completed

I have another group of three of these to paint, those are the ones that can be summoned in a game to increase the horde size. These really are lovely figures, full of character in their evil looking faces. The miniatures are a bit fiddly to put together, with separate arms, heads and add-on bits. Nothing some good adhesive can't deal with though

This Bakemono is the only character one I have at the moment, Tra-Peng the hunter. You can just make out a man-trap that he has slung over his shoulder

I have quite a bit of Games Workshop Lord of the Rings range, both painted & unpainted. Even though I haven't played a game in a few years I got the urge to paint some of them. These Gondor Fountain Guard are lovely figures and I wanted some when they were first released. On reading they are being replaced with Finecast  I decided to pick up these metal ones cheap off of eBay. I'll have to watch the films again now though!

Finally, I wanted to clear some scenery bits that needed doing. The Ainsty checkpoint was in need of painting as I glued it together previously. The wooden shed was something I added to the Warbases order a while back and went together quickly and some card tiles on the roof finished it off nicely. Finally, the shop I got from PMC on eBay. It comes prepainted with a cream brick colour that I gave a quick red drybrush to make it match my other UK buildings. The windows and sign were also painted to lift it ready for use

Bushido: Zuba

Taking a brief rest from painting 15mm Gruntz figures, I decided to make a start on the Bushido starter set that I picked up at the UK Games Expo a couple weekends ago

The company were running playable demo games and my fellow gamer, Steve Jones, managed to get a game and passed on favourable comments. So, a purchase later and I have the Savage Wave set, which consists of Japanese style demons

As we are planning a quick walk through of the rules this evening at Wells, I finished off the oni & glued together the bakemono last night

The oni is named Zuba and is cast as a single piece with just the horns separate to be glued on. He's a big lump of metal but paints up lovely. I painted him in the traditional colour of red that most oni are shown as and fixed him to a 50mm resin base that I had spare

I'll hopefully give a report of how the game runs in a day or two. If it plays well I may have to order some more......
