March Pledge: Week Four + Three Days

And so week four of March passes, at least it was more productive than week three! I've also included the three days left at the end of the month rather than do a separate posting

March 22nd: ILL

Unfortunately I was still recovering from the week three issues so didn't get started until Sunday

March 23rd: Rogue Trader era Eldar from Games Workshop

There's something about the original Warhammer 40K figures that were released over 20 years ago that really appeals to me. They seem to have so much more character than the figures that are currently being produced. I picked this guy and the one from tomorrow up for only a few pounds cheap off eBay. Metal, cheap, great figures, what's not to like?

March 25th : WIP Cafe

I picked up a small collection of Atomic Cafe '57 figures a while ago when North Star were having a sale. I also managed to get the walls for this O scale diner really, really cheap off of eBay. Agreed, I've had to build the roof and sign but I think it was a bargain. The sign lettering is 8mm plastic characters from Slaters, by the way. I'll undercoat it over the weekend when I can get outside with some spray paint

March 26th - 28th: Frothing Looneys from Statuesque Miniatures

Three figures that I received from Statuesque last week. Brilliant figures that really show what can be done with 3D sculpting. I have some other Statuesque figures as well, after painting these I need to do them :)

March 29th: Elf Artist from Alternative Armies

Part of a very limited edition Flintloque set that also includes a Todoroni noble. He still needs painting though

March 30th: Zin Envoy from Ion Age

A free monthly figure I got with an order from Ion Age for some 15mm sci-fi figures. He appears to be Asian inspired with the clothing and hair/hat style. Great figure, quick to do which was great for a day with not much spare time

March 31st: Hef from Brigade Games

The leader of the Kit Kat Club, one of the Atomic Cafe packs I picked up from North Star when they had them on sale


So, March is complete. Although not totally successful due to illness, I feel it was worth the effort. It was a struggle some days but it made me clear some things which was good

Will I do it again? Yes, but not every month as I need a painting break for a few days. Maybe every other month is possible, I'll have a think ..

Flintloque: Orc Chaplain

I dug out another one of the Flintloque limited edition figures to paint a few months ago. He sat under-coated on the painting queue waiting for his time to come and I decided it was here this week

This is an orc (British) chaplain from the very limited range that is limited to just 250 castings. A chunky figure that required very little cleaning beyond removing a couple light mould lines. Painted similar to the example on the Alternative Armies website as I couldn't find any other colour details

Flintloque: Foul Mouth Freddy

Following on from the Bushido Bakemono, and wanting a change, I dug into the lead mountain and grabbed a limited edition Flintloque figure to paint

This is another one limited to just 250 castings and is based on the character Foul Mouth Freddy that appears in several online stories. He represents an orc sergeant in the Albion army

I have found three more of these limited Flintloque figures to paint so will try and get them finished as well

As it is now the beginning of March, I need to think about my pledge for 2013 and what to concentrate on this month. Do I start the Flames of War Russians or not? After much thought (not helped by banging my head and getting mild concussion - don't ask ..) I have decided to spend this month completing several near-finished projects

So, this will be March ..

1. Three Bakemono to finish all of the Bushido project
2. One mousling still left from the set I painted in January
3. Three Flintloque limited edition figures
4. A Westwind headless horseman for my forthcoming Gothic Horror games at Wells
5. All of the remaining Chinese Mythology figures

Even if I don't complete all of these, I will be starting work on the Russians the beginning of April!

Flintloque: Villiam Bedsforc the Bombardier

As I'm now working on my Firestorm Invasion force, with the aim to get them ready for a game early in February, updates will be a bit quieter. I withheld posting the few figures that I finished during the first week of the month. I'll post these in a drip feed way to have some posts whilst I complete the FI miniatures

This is another one of the very limited edition figures that Alternative Armies have released for Flintloque & Slaughterloo. These are limited to castings of only 250 figures so tend to sell out quite quickly. Flintloque figures are very matter of choice, you either love or hate them

This chap is Villiam Bedsforc the Bombardier and anyone here in the UK will probably recognise him as based on the Rik Mayall character for Bombardier beer. Sculpted by Tony on the Dampf's Modelling Page, check it out for some excellent work!

Flintloque: Kyng Gorge III LE039

The latest delving into the  lead mountain unearthed a small collection of limited edition Flintloque figures that I bought a while ago. With these figures, you either love or hate them, the style is very cartoony and can be crude in sculpting style but they have a charm that appeals to me

The figure I chose to paint is of Kyng Gorge III, the ogre ruler of the orc nation of Albion. In the Flintloque world, the British are orcs whilst the Germans are ogres, hence the reason why this figure is the race he is

For historical reference, here is a painting of the real King George III

This gave me a good indication of a uniform, especially what was going on with the cuffs. For the rest I used my own choices when I got to painting them

Once I had cleaned and based the figure on a 30mm lipped style base (my bases of choice for these figures) I scanned around for some suitable pictures of this miniature painted. The only one I found was the version on the shop website, although to be honest it doesn't really inspire...

He is a nice figure once painted, a big chunk of metal at 50mm tall and stands head & shoulders over most other figures. The only thing I would have liked was a straighter sceptre as the moulded on one is curving to the right and is too attached to the figure to do much with

So, here is my version. I think he looks a bit better than the one above...

A New Beginning

Everyone else seems to have a blog for their gaming hobby now a days so I thought I would give it a go.

This will be part paintlog, part gaming report, part musing and part anything else that doesn't fit in the other areas...

So, to begin with, a photo of the last figures painted. These are Flintloque figures from Alternative Armies, and are the very limited edition set of The Gingerbread Men. I like quirky figures and these definitely fall into that category!

These are the first Flintloque figures I've painted in a long time but they have made me think about doing something with my collection. I'm considering using the Songs of Drums & Shakos rules from Ganesha Games that I already have
